Type Journal - WEEK 7

At the book store the other day I stumbled on this book cover which uses wonderful typography. I knew it looked familiar and after investigation I realized it is created by the graphic designer Jessica Hische who uses many older looking, new typefaces for her work. The photo below is something I just found online that is a interesting play on hierarchy of type I found funny.

Type Journal - WEEK 6

I was watching TV the other day and noticed that some commercials have great typography in them. The Ford commercials are wonderful examples of using type in a new way with motion and video at the same time. Here are some screen shots of the videos and also the links to the different commercials.

Type Journal - Week 5

Post 1

Post 2
This is from a type book that I had lying around the house. I found this one very interesting how the descenders create the form of the kangaroo. Its a very unique typeface that becomes a logo all in itself.

Type Journal Week #4

Entry #1

This week I am visiting my sister and I decided for my type journal to take pictures of things she had hanging on her walls. Some had good typography, others... not so much. These stickers of different cities, places, and colleges are all different, but some stick out and not in a good way. Mostly I noticed the CW. I know the shape is the iconic bumper sticker of this kind, but the type choice they made was far from well thought through. Obviously it can be done correctly since many of the others hanging here look very well put together.

T-Shirt Project - Computer Sketches

Here are my computer sketches of possible t-shirt designs in black and white eventualy I picked one that I felt worked best and tried a few different colors to see how they would turn out. I will be using a stensel to create the giant letter and painting it with fabric paint. For the plane and the arrows I am going to attempt to screen print them on.

Exercise Project - 4 Paragraphs

For this project we had to use 11 point Baskerville font and use right, left, justified, and center alignment.

Exercise Project - Hierarchy of Type

For this assignment we had to take the same block of text and with limitations for each.

The first was to use the same type, size, and weight.

Second was to use the same type, size, but different weights.

Third was using different type size and different weights

Forth was to use different size, weights and varied letter spacing.

The last one was to use interpretive manipulation of type to reinforce the message.
