I find mysefl noticing menu's a lot more since working on this menu project. This menu was at Qdoba's which I went to the other day for lunch. The first thing I noticed was their mix of typefaces, they did a really nice job creating a look for the menu and the type plays well into that modern feel. Overall the menu was easy to read and well designed.  

MENU - in-progress packaging design

Here is the in-progress of my packaging design. After looking at a lot of different beer 6-pack designs, I still wasn't sure exactly what look I wanted to go for. I came across an old book, with a cover that was just the right size and thought it would make a good container for my bottles. I wanted to only do a 4 pack because of time constraint with creating labels. Eventually I would want to make more labels for the other two bottles that are different. After the critique today, there are a lot of changes that need to be made on my packaging. Mostly on the outside, I need to incorporate my logo in some way. Originally I was going to make a tag, but it was mentioned to just add it to the outside like a stamp. also, if I add burlap to the menu, I want to tie it in to this design as well and thought of wrapping it in the burlap instead of the paper.

Here are some pictures from my first draft of my menu. After the critique, I am going to make a few changes mostly with the cover. I want to look into making my logo slightly smaller and also play with the binding, possibly adding burlap to the spine. Throughout the menu, there were slight changes that needed to be made with prices and also some typos in spelling. 

TYPE JOURNAL - Week 10 and week 11

I've been looking at a lot of packaging design for 6 packs of beer for my menu project and have come across some really great uses of typography. Since I am a few weeks behind on my type journal I decided to catch up by posting a few of the interesting ones I found here.

This package is a brilliant use of type and also imagery to create a dynamic and different package design. Also when looking closer at the words "bold city" you can see the use of mixing typefaces and size variations. Overall the piece is very well designed.

Although these are not beer packaging or labels, I stumbled on these boxes throughout my search and was immediately entranced. When trying to find out more about them, I found that they are boxes used for handmade objects such as bags, gloves... etc. The use of type on these boxes are random and very hand-sketched which complements nicely the mission of their products they are creating.
